Exodus 8:22 establishes the primary biblical precedent for protection from flies, where God promises to set apart the land of Goshen so that no swarms of flies would enter, distinguishing it from the rest of Egypt. This protection served as a divine sign that the Lord is in the midst of the earth and that He provides a division between His people and their oppressors.
